Blogging and Malaysia Politicians

This entry was posted on Apr 15 2008

After Malaysians has been shocked by the result from previous general election, the popularity of blog was increased. Blog was claimed to be one of the factor why the result of last Malaysia Election Day turned out like that. Huh, now I know, blog can influenced the society already. And it is not impossible if one day, blog will be the main medium for people to get the right and more information rather than accepting everything showed on the television. You know about the result, right? 5 states fell into opposition party, and it was a bad result ever for current government party. Anyway, I don’t want to talk about the factors or reasons about why the result become like that. I don’t like to talk about all those political issues. The one that I want to talk now is about blogging among Malaysia politicians nowadays which I’m sure some of you already know that there are some of them already started blogging. And heck, it was increasing day to day, I can see now there are many blog from government politicians.

The first government politician blog (excluding opposition) that I know is Dr. Khir Toyo’s blog, ex-MB of Selangor. And I thought that was just only he that has such initiative to start blogging after his retirement, but it was wrong. The number of blogs from government politicians now increased, plus they now was required to have blog and it is a MUST. [Read more] Lol. A must? What are they thinking? They can accept blogging as a way to express their thought and opinion now? Owh, maybe they realized that blogging is the new way to express their opinion after what they got on last Election Day. Speaking of that also makes me thinking about this thing, before this aren’t someone has said that all bloggers are liar? [Citation needed] And now they also blogging, what on earth are they thinking?

Don’t believed what I said? Here some of the blogs that currently written by government politicians (I’m not going to highlight blogs from opposition since they are already known long time ago)

Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo (www.drkhir.com) - he already got a domain! :D
Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam (www.mohdalirustam.blogspot.com) - heck, he already turn off the comment section at his blog. If I’m not mistaken, his blog got about 3xx comments per post! grr…
Datuk Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek (drchua9.blogspot.com) - what the ‘9′ means?

I’m only listed three of them here but it is possible there are more out there as I said earlier, they are required to have a blog now and it is a must. Moreover, all their coming in this blogsphere was really awaited. Why I said that? Their blog received such a damn high traffic and also got hundreds of comments for each post. Can you imagine that? I wish I can get such a high traffic also to my blog. Huhu. You’ll know what I mean when you see the screenshot below.

Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo's blog

and this one,

Dr. Mohamad Khir Toyo's blog

Believe me? Haha, I guess they can be such a ‘celebrity blogger’ in less than 4 month. Huhu. And I think this is the right time for them to register to be a part of Nuffnang community. I’m sure they can earn a lot. Hehe.. at least they can earn some money while blogging and maybe this can be such an encouragement for them to keep blogging as their ways to express their opinion. Will they? And maybe after that also they will realize how blogging can give them a profit. Hmm.. maybe they don’t need it?

Anyway, I’m not against them or say them to stop blogging. Hey, I welcomed all of you to this blogsphere and I wish to hear more from your side (I already bored to hear about them on the television). I know via blogging you’ll have more freedom to speak out what you want to say, and I’m wish to hear and read all that. Since before this I’m just reading opposition blog because you all still don’t have such knowledge to start blogging, so I wish I could have something interesting to read after this from you.

I think this is the most long post by me. Anyway, don’t feel offended. This is just my personal point of view towards this issue. I know everyone have right to involve in this world of ICT and I welcomed all of you, the new comer of blogsphere to share your opinion and thought to all the readers.

P/s: owh.. I don’t wish to turn my blog into political blog. :P

  1. the heavy loss in the general election by bn is not due to the electronic media. it was just a ploy by bn to divert attention elsewhere.

the major thing that caused their downfall was due to racial issues, public safety, rising cost of living and cronies/corruption, etc …. not blogs

  2. ya.. i agree with your opinion. That’s the major cause. Anyway, we can’t argue that blog is one of the medium to bring and deliver the true story behind certain incidents. Because if we hope for mainstream to serve us with the unbiased info/news, I’m sure we will not get 100% the right story. But in this world of no border, we can do this. Speak out our opinion through blogging freely but, still under control. My point is, blog still playing its role indirectly in the last election day. :)

And I believed that Malaysians nowadays will not 100% believe everything saying in television. And I know, Malaysians now are smart enough to think which is good, which is bad and know where to find the truth.

Anyway, thanks for your comment. I’m glad to hear the opinion from others. :D

  3. It is one to have a blog but also one to write useful info on the blogs esp if they are big names. The Dari Kacamata is a real kaca mata, but sometimes, we need facts esp on high positions - not just rattles. They must know this is not a rattle off your head blog like any celebrity blogger, but more so as a politician and getting the people’s votes.

I think one of the reasons BN lost apart from a lot of other reasons is because they dont know how to market themselves eg. prove the good things they have done.

So rather than talking bad about the other parties, they should focus on themselves - the good deeds. Let the ppl know what they have been doing.

Hence it applies in the blog - share the ideas on the blog eg. on why we are having the Keris shaped Melaka tower, the new river front, the Eye On Melaka etc etc. No doubt he is VP in UMNO, but as CM, promoting Malacca and his works will appeal to not only the pros but also the antis of his to his blog. For all you know, the wind may change to his side with the blog if its used well… otherwise, it will be like advertising on the main media w/o much impact.
