April and A Beginning to New Challenge

Salam and hello everyone. Sorry, I still not able to reply all of your comments. But, I’m facing something weird with this blog currently. Starting from 1st April 2010, this blog traffic going down drastically from hundreds uniques visitors daily to less than 20 uniques visitors daily. I don’t know what is happening. I’ve checked hosting server status, it is running without any down time since 1st April 2010. It is ridiculous the traffic is going down like that in less than a day. More weird is that, it is starting from 1st April until today. Seriously, it make me crazy to think about it. Don’t tell me this is a kind of April Fool jokes. Huhu. See the screenshot for details.

Seriously, this is really weird for me. Looks like my blog main source of traffic, which is most of it from search engine; is gone. Do you have any ideas how this thing could happen? If before this I have not updated this blog about weeks, but still, the traffic still okay, around 30-40 uniques visitors daily, but this time, I can’t figure out what’s the problem. Either the problem is from this blog or really from the visitors itself. You think?

I have compared this blog’s traffic with several others traffic analytic tools, such as Nuffnang and Awstats. The result is quiet the same. These results drive me crazy to think how this could happen.

Anyway, put aside about this blog traffic. April is coming, and this mean I have to be ready for my new upcoming challenge. Starting this upcoming 5th April 2010, I’m going to undergo industrial training as a requirement for my degree program. Owh, forgot to mention, my industrial training is starting from 5th April 2010 until 25th June 2010, which is about 12 weeks. Some may say it is too short. Yes, it is. Three months is considered too short if compared to other universities, such as UTP which their industrial training is about 8 months. Anyway, three months is the minimum period of time for industrial training required by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and UNITEN has decided to go with this minimum period of time for industrial training. Well, nothing much to say, just do it!

Okay, that’s all for now. If you have any ideas what is the reason behind this drastic drop of traffic to this blog, please let me know.

Did Twitter Kills Your Blogging Passion?

Salam and hello everyone. Hope you guys in a great mood and health because it is weekend now. So, cheer up! By the way, title for this entry might tell the reason, why there are lack of updates recently at this blog. Okay, it is not all about Twitter actually even though I have to admit, I’m getting addicted to Twitter now. One of the reasons because I can simply write quick updates easily there just to tell my followers, what I’m doing now? What I’m thinking and reading now? That kind of simple questions somehow do not need me to write a proper entry for it. Agree with me?

Anyway, this entry is the second entry related to Twitter and the purposed is simply need some responses from fellow Twitterers, what do you think about Twitter? Did Twitter kills your blogging passion?

In addition, not all Twitterers are bloggers, some of them are just ordinary people who like to be connected with each other with simplicity of Twitter. Like you use Facebook and Friendster.

After using Twitter about a month, I found out that Twitter is more than just getting connected with each other. You can get more information regarding your interest by following people that suit your interest and maybe from that you can get the idea what to blog. Isn’t it useful?

Twitter is a free social-networking site like Facebook and Friendster and also a micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read updates from other users which known as tweets. Tweets is text-based posts which limit up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the users profiles and this tweets also visible to other users who have subscribed/followed them which known as followers.

Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Telekom Malaysia (TM), Customer Service and Streamyx: My Experience

Salam and hello all. As I have mentioned in my previous entry, I will share with you, my story about Telekom Malaysia and Streamyx. This entry is not supposed to be a condemning or a kind of insulting entry, but this entry is more about to share with others and with hope, this incident won’t be repeated again. So, take it positively.

Okay, if you dig into my entries in last 2 months which here and here, you might know what was the problem that I’m facing. Whatever it is, if you don’t know what was happening last time. Here, I’ll story to you one more time, briefly with time chronology. I hope you’ll be clear about what I’m going to tell you next. This entry might be long, so take your time.

[2 Feb 2009] – I’ve registered my application at TM Point together with deposit payment.
[12 Feb 2009] – I got a call from Streamyx’s agent asking me about my Streamyx’s login ID. I said the phone still not yet installed. Then, he said he’ll make sure the connection will be installed as soon as possible.
[12 Feb 2009] – I saw several vehicles of TM Maintenance Contractor doing some cable replacement at my apartment. Their job done on the next day, 13 Feb 2009.
[19 Feb 2009] – My housemate asked for the reason from TM Point why the connection can’t be made after 1 week of cable replacement. The TM staff provided him with TM Contractor’s phone number that in charge with the installation process.
[20 Feb 2009] – I tried to call the TM Contractor using the phone number provided, but he refused to answer my call and several attempts after have ended with failure.
[22 Feb 2009] – I sent 2 support emails to TM Customer Service and Support via their official website with hope they can reply to me back. My previous case about my internet bill has replied by them when I sent them this support email.
[4 March 2009] – I went to TM Point again to ask them for the reason why the connection can’t be made after 1 month of registration date without valid reason. They said I’m not answering the phone call from their technician. Okay, my phone is switched on 24/7. Due to that, they have made another appointment on 5 March 2009 for the installation process.
[5 March 2009] – I have waited for the whole day, the TM Contractor didn’t show up!
[6 March 2009] - I went to TM Point again for an explanation about what has happened yesterday. They said they don’t know why the contractor didn’t show up and the contractor even didn’t call me for any cancellation of the appointment. The TM staff promised to let me know my application status by next week.
[11 March 2009] – I got a call from TM Point. They told me that the connection can’t be made because the cable has been stolen. What the heck? The new replaced cable has been stolen after 3 weeks of replacement? Ridiculous!

That was the last call from TM Point and I didn’t get any calls after that regarding my application until I received an email from one of this blog readers. There’s more inside, so continue your reading.

So, that was what I’m facing last time. If you read up until here, what would you do next? Are you going to wait or cancel your application or do nothing? The thing that I was thinking at that time is, to cancel my application and claim back my deposit money. Yes, I want to cancel my application even though I don’t know if it is possible or not, plus during that time, I’m already considering subscribing P1 Wimax since the nearest dealer of P1 Wimax is just few kilometers away from my area. Moreover, some other bloggers who already subscribed to this Wimax service has given a good feedback about P1 Wimax and this has attracted me to consider P1 Wimax. That was what I’m thinking, but one of my blog readers has approached me personally and offering me assistance to solve this problem. She has emailed and offering me her assistance to solve my application’s problem. She introduced herself as Umi Kalsum Adnan and she is one of Telekom Malaysia’s staff that in charge of business customer. I’m glad because she has approached me personally even the complaint email that I have sent to TM Customer’s Service and Support via their website until now has never replied. What more interesting is, Umi has offered her assistance after she read my entry about this problem in this blog.

At first, I little bit shocked since I never expect one of this blog readers will approach me to offer assistance for me, but anyway I’m happy because there is still somebody who is willing to help. She has emailed me on 30 March 2009, which is about 2 weeks after the last call from TM Point where I have registered my application. I replied to her back few days later since I’m busy with my final exams during that time. So, after everything has settled and my exams already finished, I replied to her email. We did several conversations only via email and on 9 April 2009, she asked me for the details of mine for her to help me out with my problem. I emailed her back my details of mine on the same day.

Amazingly, on the next day (10 April 2009), I have received a phone call from TM (I don’t know from which TM branch) asking me when I will be at home for their technician to come to install the telephone connection. What I was thinking at that time was, now they are able to install the phone connection but why give me such ridiculous reasons last time? The phone cable has been stolen after 3 weeks replaced it with the new one?! What is that? Then, I told them that I’m currently at my hometown and not at home for one week but there’s one of my housemate will be at home. Then, they said it’s okay and they will send their technician to install the phone connection on Monday (12 April 2009). More interesting that was not the only phone call that I’ve received that day, there were 4 calls from TM asking me about the installation matters. Haha, it sounds like I’m a VIP customer now. I don’t know what Umi has done, but I’m glad that they will solve this problem quickly. Besides asking me about the phone installation, they also asked me about my Streamyx application. I’m now amazed on how they take my application seriously. Hohoho.

The next day, I also got several phone calls asking me the same thing again and reminding me that their technician will come on Monday (12 April 2009). One of the phone calls was from the TM Contractor that last time has refused to answer and has ignored my calls. He said he will come on Monday to install the phone connection and asking me when he can come. I told him that my friend will be at home during the time that we have agreed. But unfortunately, the appointment has to be canceled due to some reasons and has postponed to the next day (13 April 2009). The next day, the contractor has come and installed the phone connection. Now, the phone connection has been installed, next is Streamyx connection. Thanks to Umi too because she has updated me about my application status during this period.

The next 2 days (16 April 2009), I got another call and now it was from Streamyx. They asked me about my Streamyx application and ask me either I want to self collect the modem or not. I said yes because this is what I have written in my application. But, another great offer to me from them, they said they will send me the modem to my house for free of charge! If you read Streamyx’s application form, you’ll notice that they usually charge about RM14 for courier service to send the modem to your house, but I got it for free! Well, I don’t know how I suppose to say about this, but it was really satisfy me. I don’t know if all these because of Umi, but I’m really glad with what I got. Or is it I’m lucky? Anyway, to make the story short, the modem has sent by them to my doorstep on the next Monday (20 April 2009). Now, everything has settled and my internet connection now already connected.

I have subscribed for TM In-A-Box Combo 1Mbps and these are the result that I got after I did several speed test evaluation. I know some of you might thinking these speed test results might not so accurate, but whatever it is, we still can put it into consideration. Okay, these are the result.

The result using P1 Wimax Speedometer.

These are the result using SpeedTest.net with different server locations.

From these results, my rough analysis is TM or I can say Streamyx connection right now has problems with the connection to US server and some other part of locations. I also don’t know the reasons, but I’m sure TM should have valid reason why this happened. I tried browsing Facebook and it was quite slow plus the download speed from Rapidshare also slow. If before this, I can get average download speed of 40Kbps from Rapidshare, but now to get 20Kbps was really hard plus the connection was not so stable. But, overall the connection speed was satisfied me so far. This speed also might be because I’m the first Streamyx user in my area. Remember last time I said the TM Maintenance Contractor has come to replace the cable with the new one? That’s means there is no one apply for phone or Streamyx connection in my area before me because if it otherwise, of course the cable has been replaced before I applied for the service. Get it?

Whatever it is, I satisfied with the service so far and I think this entry should close my case. I don’t know how to say this, but I think TM should train their customer service very well and please don’t give such ridiculous reasons to your customers. I know TM have monopolized broadband ISP in Malaysia and I hope with this monopolization, TM also can offer great customer service and support to all their customers. My experience has taught me that some of TM staff sometime give baseless reasons to their customer problem but some of them are doing very well for their job. For example, Umi. Well, I think I will close my case here and I hope those who are waiting for this entry will satisfy with what I have written here. As I said earlier, this entry is just for sharing purpose and I don’t have any intention of insulting of what so ever. I’m just hoping that TM will level up their service quality and of course their customer service support too.

Now Everything Paid Off – (Another Version of Quick Updates)

Salam and hello. Long time with no update, huh? I noticed my last post for this blog is about more than one week ago. Sorry to all my dear visitors and readers of this blog, I’m currently working on my new Bahasa Melayu blog at OH!MalaysiaKU. Its another blog by me but the different is, it is delivered in Bahasa Melayu as the main language and the blog is more to current issues, information in IT, entertainment and etc. Anyway, I’ll try to manage both blogs altogether. You can give my new blog a visit and if interested, do leave some of your words there. Ok that’s ends here.

Next, my final exam result already came out and I’ll be in new semester soon, 2nd semester of the 2nd year; and I’m very grateful to know that my target for this semester and one of my resolutions for this year fulfilled. Alhamdulillah. Well, new semester will begin soon and of course promises more challenging things that I need to face. Anyway, I’ll try to face it and get through it. Before I forgot, thanks to those of my friends and blog readers who wished me during my “hibernation” period last time; here and here too. You all have motivated me. Thanks. *Unitenians now can check your result online at our university website.*

So, today I’m going back to KL since my new semester will begin this Monday. And next week will be the week for add and drop session for the new semester; semester 2 2008/2009. Blog Contest : Why I Hate KongsiBlog.com

Salam and hello to all. This post was written as to take the challenge by Sabri Ahmad aka Kita. And for sure, this is not a hate blog post. This post purposed to show what the weak points of this blog that need to be improved by KongsiBlog.com. Ok here it goes.

I hate KongsiBlog.com because;

Part 1: Blog Interface

Recent Comment at the sidebar
This blog still using the common recent comment plugin that already have in wordpress which show the name of commentators and in what post they comment. For me, for this kind of blog which have so many topics discussed, I think KongsiBlog.com should use another comment plugin which more attractive such as Get Recent Comment plugin. This plugin will show recent comment together with some part of the comment that written by the commentators, can avoid from showing comments from the authors of the entry and can avoid from showing trackback as comment. All these can’t be done by common recent comment plugin that already installed after you install WordPress blog. Example of this plugin is as what you can see at this blog. Its not wrong to show what peoples commented but I think it should be shown more attractively which can attract other reader to comment back and knows what other have said.
‘Ahli’ section
In this Ahli section shows several links for the users which are register, login, entries RSS, comment RSS and WordPress.org (Very loyal, huh?). I’m just thinking why KongsiBlog.com didn’t change the RSS link to standard RSS link by Feedburner since I noticed that KongsiBlog.com offered RSS via email provided by Feedburner. I think it should be more convenient to stick to only one RSS link and at the same time can avoid confusion among the readers and subscribers. Last but not least, do you mind to remove WordPress.org link? Haha, everyone knows that.
MyBlogLog and Alexa widget
From my personal opinion, these widgets should be removed as it will increase the blog loading time and there’s no necessary reason to put these widgets. What for? Just show what you need to show and keep it clean and simple.

Lack of pictures in blog post
From my thought, this blog should be a magazine type blog which focus in various topics so I think by putting some pictures inside the post can attract readers to read the entry plus make the entry more interesting to read. The homepage should be more attractive if the author can insert some attractive pictures about the entry because it can be easily boring if everything is all words.

Part 3: Others

Directory browsing and indexing
I noticed that KongsiBlog.com didn’t turn off directory browsing and indexing. I noticed this while I’m trying to access this blog from http://kongsiblog.com/wp-content/plugins and it shows some directory contained in the plugins directory. This for sure not a big deal if KongsiBlog.com really wants to share what it has in the plugins directory and what it has in the uploads directory (http://kongsiblog.com/wp-content/uploads) . You don’t mind? To turn this feature off, proceed here.

Part 4: Suggestion

List of Authors at the sidebar
I know that there’s already list of authors in the About Us page but I think it would be more convenient if you can put the list of authors at the sidebar together with their blog url (if they have blog). So, readers can easily know how many authors write for this blog and at the same time can easily browse posts from selected authors.

Those are all my comments about KongsiBlog.com. I personally think that its too harsh to use “hate” instead of dislike for this post. Hoho, anyway this is what the contest organizer wants so I just follow it. Anyway, by commenting about KongsiBlog.com doesn’t means my blog is perfect and I think no blog is perfect but it would be good if we keep improving what we need to improve.

IzzatRuslan.com v4 : Give Me Your Feedback

Salam and hello everyone. Here I am to start writing again. Notice something unfamiliar? Yes, yes, there are some major changes that I have made to this blog and more will come soon. The first thing that obviously you can see now is the new template for IzzatRuslan.com. For your information, this template is the result after I did some modifications from the Portfolio Press wordpress theme by Blog oh Blog! Thanks again to Jai for providing such a great and easy to customize theme.

So as for this new IzzatRuslan.com, I have planned some plans for this blog as to improve the quality of the entry as well as this blog too. But anyhow, for me to improve this blog, I need some feedback especially from the one that read this blog. So far, what do you think about this blog? Just give me your feedback, I’ll really appreciate it.

DDOS Attack on My Hosting

Salam and hello everyone. If you notice yesterday, the connection to this website quite slow and sometimes got internal server error message. At first, I didn’t know what the cause of this matter but last night, while chatting with Sam (Serverfreak Support), he said the servers have been attacked by DDOS attack hence cause the network and connection to the server becomes slow.

What is DDOS attack? Mr. Wiki got the answer.

A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted, malevolent efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely. Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even DNS root servers.

I didn’t chat too long with Sam since at the time I chat with him, there’s another DDOS attack. But anyway, hope this problem can be solve asap. Anyway, sorry for any inconveniences for those who are surfing this blog.

But I think the attacks already stopped since the connection to the blog quite fast right now, maybe need time to fully recover from the attack. Anyway, thanks for Sam for his hard work. He already didn’t sleep for 5 days. Ok, that just for your information.

I also noticed that some of other blogs which are hosted at Serverfreak also inaccessible such as Knizam.com and Topotato.com. I don’t know if the problem is cause by the same reason but it seems I can’t access their website in the past few days. I already tried to connect to their blog using both UMobile and Maxis Broadband but still I got the page tells the page can’t be viewed. At first I thought it might be because of the ISP itself, but trying on another ISP also come out with the same result. Till now I still can’t access their blog.

p/s: have you experienced ddos attack before?

UPDATE: IzzatRuslan.com was down for 3 hour 30 minutes from 7.35am today, so sorry for any incoveniences. But, the connection seems going back to normal already. (3.34PM)
