Salam and hello everyone. So, for this time, I want to share with you all one method that you can use to secure your hosting bandwidth from being “stolen” by some irresponsible people. Since some people have requested this tutorial hence, for this time, I’ll guide you guys on how to set this simple setting on your hosting CPanel so you’ll be able to control which websites can directly link any files from your hosting and of course this is one of the ways to set which websites you want to share your hosting bandwidth. Sound complicated? Actually, it is not that complicated, it is just a simple setting that will be done in few steps.

So, are you ready? Here we go. First thing first, login into your CPanel account. Usually the URL to access your cpanel is http://yourdomain/cpanel.

Ok, here is the first step. Scroll down until you find this icon named Hotlink Protection under Security tab. Click that icon.

The below screenshot will appear and you can see all those URLs and some setting there.
If you ever yet do any setting on this before, the default setting for this is “the hotlink protection is currently disabled”. If it is so, enable it by simply click enable button and the hotlink protection now enabled.

Ok, now is the important step, you need to list down all websites URL that you will allow to access the files hosted on your hosting. For example, if you have second website with the URL yourdomain.org and you want to allow this domain to use all files hosted in your current hosting. Hence, you’ll need to enter the web url which is with and without www. So, for this case, what you’ll need to enter are http://www.yourdomain.org and http://yourdomain.org in URLs to allow access box. This is a must otherwise your current hosting will block this domain from accessing your files in your current hosting. Get it?

Next step is, if you notice, below the URLs to allow access box, there’s another setting you can set up which is which types of file you want to protect. As default, it’ll list jpeg, gif, png, jpg and bmp. And in my case I’ve added another file extension, which is .swf. So, if you’ve another types of file, for example compressed zip file with extension .zip. What you need to key in is ,zip. (Note: comma should be included to separate this file type with other file types) See the screenshot for details.

And for the check box, just check it as allow direct access.

Another important step is the last part which is the url for the image or file to replace the original image/file that has been linked from your hosting without your consent. You can host this replacement image/file at any free hosting image/file hosting such as Photobucket or Flickr. Simply put the link for the picture that you’ve hosted at Photobucket or Flickr into the “Redirect request to this URL” text field.

Now, you’re done! Simply press ok and now you can try either your hosting protection is working or not by selecting any images/files from your hosting with the extension as what you’ve entered before, for example an image file with .jpeg extension. Now try to display or insert the image that you’ve hosted in your hosting to any blogs or websites that currently not in your allowed URLs list. Publish it and see what will happen. What you will see is not the image that you’ve hosted on your hosting, but the image that you’ve hosted on the free image hosting. If it is what you see, it means your protection now is working. If it is not, try to recheck your allowed URLs list, maybe you insert the image in your allowed URLs.

For others to test it from my hosting, you can try to insert the image below from this URL ( http://izzatruslan.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/hotlink-test.jpg ) which is hosted on this blog’s hosting.

Then, insert the image to any of your blogs, publish it and see what you’ll get. The image you should get is as below. If you see the image below, that’s means my hosting protection is working.

I hope this simple tutorial can help you to prevent others from illegally linking any files from your hosting and steal your hosting bandwidth. This tutorial might benefits those who paid for hosting with low monthly bandwidth and for me, you should control your hosting bandwidth usage otherwise your websites/blogs will be inaccessible when your hosting is running out of bandwidth. And for those who paid for hosting with high monthly bandwidth, you also might consider to apply this bandwidth protection. The reason is simple, you paid for it. If you don’t mind people take it from you, then it’s okay.

Remember one thing, without bandwidth, your websites/blogs are inaccessible. Until next time, hope this simple tutorial will help you to secure your hosting bandwidth.

p/s: Do leave your comment if you’ve any questions across your mind. Thanks.

Salam and hello all. Have you ever checked your hosting directory can be browse or not? Don’t get what I mean? Ok, since most blog using WordPress as the platform, here is an example on how to check either your hosting directory can be browse or not. Try type in this URL on your browser, http://yourdomain.com/wp-content/plugins/. What can you see? If the result gives you a 404 error, it means that your hosting directory browsing and indexing is turned on. If not, it means you still not enabled it. Hence, in this entry I’ll show you how to enable this setting on your hosting. To do this you should have administrator privilege for your hosting. Ok, here are the simple steps on how to do this.

First thing first, login into your cpanel account.

In your cpanel account locate this icon named Index Manager. Usually it located at the bottom of your Cpanel in Advanced section. Ok, click Index Manager.

This pop-up will come out after you click the Index Manager icon. Select Web Root for directory selection. Then, click Go.

Next, you’ll see this screenshot. Click on public_html that located at the top of the directory list.

Then, you’ll see this setting. Ok, here is the final step, select No Indexing. And lastly, click Save.

So now you’re done already. Test it out to make sure it works. Enter the same URL as mentioned before and see what the result you’ll get. If your WordPress theme have custom 404 error page, you’ll see this page otherwise your hosting 404 error page. Ok that’s it.

Why you need to turn off your directory browsing and indexing? One thing is to protect your blog and hosting from outsider who wants to steal files on your hosting. Other thing is to prevent other people to know what plugins you currently used on your blog, what files already uploaded to your upload folder and etc. I see there are many blogs out there still allowed this directory browsing but if you really want others to know about what you hosted on your hosting, then you don’t have to worry much. Ok, hope this simple entry will help you and if got any questions, drop your words below.

p/s:Sorry for lack of update recently, I’m currently working on my new Bahasa Melayu blog. I’ll tell about it later.

Salam and hello to all. Since I already shared with you all one simple tip in WordPress which able you to auto-publish your WordPress posts last time, so this time I would like to share with you all on how to do the same thing in Blogspot (Blogger.com). I know there are millions of blogspot users out there and I hope this simple tip can also help them in their blogging. I hope so. Its not impossible for Blogspot users to be able to schedule their posts like what we had in WordPress. Its simple, like WordPress. So, keep reading to follow this simple tutorial.

First thing first, as usual, you need a complete post to be published.

And here are the easy steps to do this.
Before you press the button “PUBLISH POST”, you might notice that there’s “Post Options” box below the post entry box. Ok, expand the options box and you can see some options that you can manipulate there.

So, to be able you to auto-publish your Blogspot or Blogger post automatically at the time you wish the post to be published, you need to set the date and time for the post to be published in the options box. You can see the screenshot below for more details. The format for the date is M/D/Y.

After you’ve set everything, now you’re ready to schedule your post and it will be posted or published on the date and time that you’ve set. Easy? Ok, now click that “PUBLISH POST” button.

You can see in the right row of the post status, the post you’ve posted just now will be labeled as Scheduled. That’s means the entry will be posted on the date and time that you’ve set before. Ok, that’s all. Hopefully, this simple tip can help you a bit to blogging more convenient and comfortable.
I want to add some more advantages by scheduling your entry.

You don’t need to rush whenever you want to write a post. You can write it first in your computer using any word processor softwares in your computer for example, MS Word.

You can write as many entries as you want and can recheck it several times before it will be posted. So, you can plan what you’ll post on your blog effectively and can keep your blog updated although you not in front of your computer.

Since, you’ll write your post conveniently and in the time you can write, indirectly you can write more quality post. No need to rush etc. Write when you’ve idea and want to write. Isn’t it much comfortable?

However, there’s one disadvantage. But, its not a big deal. This kind of posting may not suitable for those who runs a blog as a life diary, which you’ll write about your daily routines in your blog. So, this kind of blog I think is not suitable to have scheduled posting because everything might be different from day to day. But, anyway, this just what I think. If you think this a good idea, then I’m ok.
Ok, that’s it. Hopefully this tip can help you a bit.

Salam and hello all. Today I want to share with you all one way for you to auto-publish your WordPress posts. Before that, what does it means by auto-publish the posts? It means that, you only have to write what post you want to publish then set the date and time for it to be published. Sound cool? In WordPress you can do it with ease. All you need to do is just set the date and time for the post to be published and here I’ll tell you how to do these easy steps.

First thing first is you need a post. Yup, you need to write a complete post first before you can auto-publish it.

Ok, now you have a post to be published. Before you click that button “Publish”, if you notice there is a link there “Publish Immediately”, do you notice it? Ok, click that link. Then, you can see some setting there where you can enter date and time. Ok, enter the date and time you want the post to be published. Finish? Then, now click that “Publish” button and you done! Easy and simple, right?

As the result, now you can see at your WordPress dashboard or at your published post the posts that you’ve scheduled to be posted on the date and time that you’ve set before. To get more details, at the dashboard click “Scheduled Posts” and you can see when the post will be posted. Yeay, now you can relax without have to online just only to publish your post. All you need to do is to write all the posts first, then set the date and everything then waits for the post to be published automatically.

The advantages by using this feature are:

You can save your time online, no need to online 24/7.

You only online whenever you need to upload all your posts and set the schedule for it to be posted.

You can write your posts conveniently without rushing hence writing increasing the posts quality.

Ok, that’s all. Hope this simple tip can help you a bit in blogging.

Salam and hello to all. Yosh.. After about 7 weeks, so this week is the last week for our にほんご　のコルス. Haha, did I write correctly? What I tried to write is Nihon-go no Course. Haha.. Sorry if there are any mistakes. Please correct me then.

Finally, after I explored a bit in Microsoft Help for how to change my keyboard layout so that I’ll able to write in Nihon-go without to use any kind of font, now, I able to write my name in にほんご using the ordinary keyboard. For example, my name in にほんご is written like this.

ムハマド　イッザト　ビン　ルスラン。

In roman, it will be Muhamado Izzato Bin Rusuran. I need to write this way so the Microsoft IME will translates what I write correctly. So, if you want to know how to change your keyboard layout so that you can write in Japan language. Here, I provide the steps on how to do this. Its actually simple and only takes a few minutes to do it.

Ok, here are the steps.

Go to your “Control Panel” (Start menu > Control Panel).

Click “Clock, Language and Region” then double click “Regional and Language Options”. Or if the Control Panel is in classic view, simply double click “Regional and Language Options”.

In Regional and Language Options, click at Keyboards and Languages tab. Then click “Change Keyboards…”. The “Text Services and Input Languages” dialog box pop-up. There will be a list, which language and keyboard layout you’re currently used. The default will be English (United States) and keyboard layout is US.

Next step is, click Add. Then the “Add Input Language” dialog box pop-up. There will a long list of languages that you can select. Ok, in this case, find Japanese (Japan). Expand the list of Japanese (Japan). Then, you can see 2 options, which is keyboard and other. Ok, tick on Japanese and Microsoft IME and also Ink Correction. Then, press ok.

Now, you done. Check back the “Text Services and Input Languages”. There should be 2 languages now. One is English (United States) and another one is Japanese (Japan). If you can see both languages so it means that you’re already able to write in Japanese.

In “Text Services and Input Languages”, click Language Bar tab. Make sure the language bar is set to be floating on desktop. Then Ok.

Now, if you notice, there is a language bar floating on your desktop and there will be 2 options of languages for you to choose whenever you want to use it. For example if you want to use or want to write in Japanese characters, simply choose Japanese (Japan) and start writing in Japanese.

When Japanese language is selected, there is some setting on the language bar. The important one is make sure Microsoft IME is selected. Otherwise, you can’t write in Japanese. Since there are two types of characters in Japanese which are Hiragana and Katakana, so make sure you set first you want to write in Katakana or Hiragana. There are options in Input Mode which you may select to write in Hiragana, full-width Katakana and others. Another one is if you don’t want the characters to be converted to Kanji characters, you can select No Conversion in Conversion Mode. Ok, that’s it. Hope now you’ll be able to write in Japanese using your ordinary keyboard. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask me, just simply drop your questions in the comment box. I’ll try to answer it.

The steps above are based on Windows Vista Home Premium, I think it should be the same in Windows XP.

————————–End of tutorial————————–

So for this week, since its our last week, so what we did is only the revision of what we have learnt before. For two days, we had ふくしゅ or revision about にほんご grammar, vocabs and Kanji. Huh, Kanji is a bit difficult to remember. I think I need to focus more on this. Anyway, its help a lot to refresh back of what we had learnt before.

Ok, a bit about our last day performance. As I mentioned in the previous MJC post, we need to form into a group and sing a Japanese song titled Kokoro Bana. So we had done with the song itself, looks like everyone now able to sing the song. Hehehe. And for the dance part, we also had done. For dance, we had simple body gestures during singing the song. Haha, sometimes simple is better, right? Because we want to enjoy singing the song and for me, no need to do such complicated body gestures. I think our group got the simplest body gestures compare to other groups. I think la, not so sure about it. Huhu. Anyway, yesterday, both of our 2 lecturers came to class. One of them was wondering how the student can find the lyric of Kokoro Bana song on the internet. Somehow he said that the lyric shouldn’t be on the internet and he said he already blocked that. I’m not sure if he just joking but it seems he looks serious. He even said “I tak puas hati la. Macam mana you all boleh dapat lirik ni kat internet. I dah blocked dah.”. I’m not sure what he means by “blocked” but I think it is not impossible to get the lyric on the internet since anyone can write it and publish it on the internet. Is it written the lyric of song and publish it on the internet is prohibited? Lols.. Sure I don’t know if there is such regulation. I just wondering if it is prohibited since my blog listed as the third result in Google for the keyword “Kokoro Bana” and I wrote the lyric of the song in my previous MJC post. If it is prohibited, then I won’t mind to remove it immediately. Hmmm.. Anyway, I already explained to my sensei that the lyric is from a Japanese lyrics website. No idea of what to say.

So, that’s all. Today we will perform our performance. Huh, hopefully we can do all the best we can do. And for other groups がんばって　ください！　じゃ、また。
